Surveyor peg installation – underground
Impala platinum mine in North West province of South Africa owned by Impala Platinum made their daily installation of survey pegs safer, faster and longer lasting by using the Hilti cordless solution since 2017. We have summarized the application description, the challenge, the solution and the customer benefit below.
Application description “Installation of survey pegs by surveyors”
Application done daily as this is a critical procedure of all underground mining operations
Surveyor drills 10mm hole into hang wall and inserts small wooden block
Spade is driven into wooden block while keeping ‘tally ‘in place
The “challenge”
Need to drill multiple holes, overhead – excessive dust exposure
Spades get pulled out of wooden block by miners' loco’s or machinery - which forces surveyor to reinstall survey pegs
Waste of time/ productivity and mining production is affected
The “solution”
TE 4-A22 / TE 6-A22 Drill
TE DRS-4-A / TE DRS-6-A Dust Removal system
TE CX insert selection for all needs and the application on hand
Tie Wire Anchor (M6 x 30 HHDCA)
Customer “benefits”
Drilling 6mm hole instead of 10mm hole as well as shallower embedment depth reduces installation time
Hilti anchor solution ensures the peg is very difficult to remove making a much more long-term installation
A much safer, faster and reliable method for surveyors
